I set up my home office in 2017. At the time, I was a full-time start-up entrepreneur (read struggling), and I did not have much money on my hands.
These are, in my opinion, must have items, which you can get on a budget, when setting up your home office:
Desk, Chair, Shelf Set
You need a desk to work on, a comfortable chair to sit on, and some some storage space for your items.
Buying a set which has a desk (with drawers), chair and shelf in one should be cheaper than buying separate items. It also gives your room some much needed color coordination.
Odds are that your desk will be your primary work area. There are a few options for types of desks that you can buy, and it really just comes down to your preference or your line of work.
You can opt to get an adjustable desk if you don’t want to sit all day, or you can get a traditional work desk.

High-Speed Internet Access
You do not have to be a digital entrepreneur like me to need a high-speed connection in your home.
We’ve all been there. You are trying to get work done and your brain is working faster than your computer.
If you are an efficient researcher; you are likely constantly looking things up online. Not only is a slow Internet connection frustrating, but it will also hinder your productivity.
This lag in time can not only slow you down, but it also offers you an opportunity to be distracted by other things.
As you wait for attachments to download, files to transfer, or Web pages to load, you could be getting work done.

Printer/Scanner
The cost of buying a machine seems high when I can get around these hurdles for free, but it would end up costing me so much time not having access to these machines at home.
I was rushing to a meeting, and needed a few print copies. I spent $15 (MK10,000) just to get those printed at a local print shop. That is about a quarter of what it would cost to purchase my own machine.
Despite the fact that we live in a predominantly paperless world, having the option to print and scan at home is a large part of being productive.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)/Power Inverter
To keep your work safe in case your electricity unexpectedly goes out, having a UPS will give you backup power for a limited time.
This will give you a chance to save your work and safely shut down your computer.
It may seem a luxury; but it really is not. Sometimes, work lost may be hard to recover; and you really may suffer having to re-do an entire day’s work.

A couch-bed
If your office multi-serves as a guest room and office, put in there a couch which can also serves as a bed.
This is great for when you have some meetings with clients/workmates (couch); or for when you just want to rest and relax (bed)!
