A fun fact: when I left undergrad, having pursued a dual-major in Economics and Demography, I was absolutely done with school, and did not want to pursue another degree. I was also very clear that I did not aspire to become an academic: I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
I spent the first 5 years after graduating building my businesses (Bien Corporation and Ntha Foundation). It has been building my businesses that has always, in a way, sent me back to school.
I enrolled in my Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (Digital Transformation) because we had just set up the first Kwathu Kollective hub in partnership with the World Bank. For the first time in my life, I had physical office premises, and about 20 people reporting to me. I felt, for a while there, that I did not know what I was doing (spoiler, I still do not know what I am doing, kinda-ish).
My MBA was slightly different: it found me in New York City. My manager at the time was nudging me to consider pursuing an MBA. I was already burnt out from my first Master’s degree, and a bit hesitant.
It was a random COLD winter morning in Manhattan. I was working at the United Nations, successfully making friends in all other spheres of life, except academia. I saw an Instagram ad to attend an MBA Tour, and I signed up; initially with just the goal of making more friends.
I deeply enjoyed speaking with the schools, and was amazed by just how helpful the admissions officers were. I later got an invite to visit Michigan State University for the Diversity Preview Day in 2023. It was that one trip, and a few changes in my life after, that made me start thinking of pivoting my companies into Agriculture. That is how I enrolled in my MBA at Michigan State University.
I had the pleasure to share more about this journey and experience with GMAC with Marc Ethier at Poets&Quants, the #1 MBA Admissions publication .
GMAC Tours gave me a system, a strategy, and the confidence to scale my vision and MBA path. Fast forward to today, I completed my internship with Microsoft, and I am growing my entrepreneurial journey with Q2 Corporation.
I am most excited for what is ahead, and all we will achieve as we continue to connect our united world.
