Style Is A Way To Say Who You Are Without Having To Speak

– Rachael Zoe.

Hey loves,

It has been a while since we last posted an article on style and I am super thrilled to share with you a reintroduction of the style segment. I will share my history with style, fashion tips and ‘everything’ there Is to know about style. I will be happy to get feedback so work with me lol.

My understanding of the word style is expressing yourself through what you wear. If you watch runway models on tv dressed in different outfits, they are basically showcasing a designers’ mind in form of a unique arrangement of clothes. I find style to be personal. Every person has their unique style which is sometimes inspired by others.

A bit about my style:

I love the 90’s fashion. Flannel shirts, boyfriend jeans, plain tees and denim jackets. That has been my main style for almost two years now.

Crazy fact: I settled for boyfriend jeans because I could not find my pants size. I grew to love boyfriend jeans because of their comfortability and of course the style.

My main inspiration came from the TV show Friends (1994-2004), where Jennifer Aniston played the character Rachel Greene, a fashion enthusiast. I loved how she rocked her outfits from printed tees to peep toe heels and taught me a few style lessons I must say. She remains one of my top fashion icons.

As a fashion lover myself, I barely use makeup. I believe in keeping it natural. I mean, bushy eyebrows totally do it for me lol. However, I am yet to start my makeup game.  I love accessorizing my outfits every once in a while with rings, bracelets, bags and head scarfs though it takes to the occasion.

In terms of colour, I opt for more vibrant colours with an occasional tinge of greys and nudes. I like prints especially on cardigans, tops and bags. Regarding shoes; sneakers, flat shoes and boots are my go to shoes. I just recently started wearing heels. I am 5’8” tall which is taller than most people I know. I went through a time where I felt too tall to please my feet with such “luxuries” until I learnt to embrace my height and flaunt it.

Other fashion icons:

  • Tyra Banks:

I started watching the Tyra Banks show when I was in primary school. She inspired me to dream about starting a career in modelling. I just personally love how she inspires women to do more and of course encourages them to embrace their features because all women are beautiful. I follow her modelling portfolio and hope to learn from her.

  • Rihanna:

I agree with Gina Marinelli to say, Rihanna is straight-up fearless when it comes to what she wears. She wears what feels good with a dash of creativity and confidently rocks it. My advice to you; if you like it, wear it.

So I recently had a photoshoot with Northern lights media and I thought of showing you guys my outfit and why I chose it.

My Outfit:

  • Black turtle neck
  • Blue skinny jeans
  • Black vans/ Black flock curve pumps

Accessories:

  • Gold hoop earrings
  • Black sling bag

Style Notes:

I was aiming for a classy street style kind of look and I just love how the pumps completely changed the look. The same outfit looked more casual with the vans. The good news about pumps is that you can pull them off with whatever outfit.

I chose two accessories to go with the outfit because I wanted the outfit to look simple, otherwise you can add a thing or two yet still balancing the details on the outfit.

Love,

Ruth
