Visit Malawi with Borneo Coach

Hey loves,

Been a minute, no travel post. I was still wrapping up my vacation – and I am feeling some motivation to get back on the road again.

I have spent the past 6 months driving around Malawi, and it was terribly enjoyable, and yet sooo draining. I have been looking into alternative means of transportation to get around Malawi. I have mixed opinions about taking the flight between Blantyre and Lilongwe – but I will leave that topic for a different day.

I checked out the Borneo Coach because it seems to be the new cool thing in town; and I have no regrets.

The first, and best thing, about the coach was obviously the fact that I can book my trip online. I am an extremely busy person, and appreciate any little convenience handed to me. The fact that I do not have to leave my bed/couch to book the coach is obviously very thrilling to me.

You can book the coach online via the Borneo Coach Website and it really is a very simple process. You basically have to pick a route, pick the tickets that suit you best, check out, and confirm! And if you are worried about your security, guess what? You can opt to pay in cash, just shortly before take off!

The Borneo Coach currently travels between Blantyre and Lilongwe, using the Zalewa route. It is an estimated 4 hours and 30 minutes drive – and they are known to keep time.

The staff were so warm and helpful, in their clean and accessible office when I went to check in.

My first impression after stepping on the bus was “Wow, this smells pretty”. I am extremely sensitive to smell, and do appreciate people and brands paying attention to cleanliness and hygiene.

I usually have trust issues when it comes to leaving my bags in the compartments under the bus – so when travelling light, the Borneo Coach has got you covered with spaces to store your belongings in overhead lockers.

The coach has blue-green chairs that would make me pick a roadtrip over flying on most days. Super comfortable, and super clean!

It also has neat wooden flooring that just adds a lovely aura to the bus.

At the same time, it has got these nice blue lights that just look extraordinary in the night time. If they looked this good during the day, imagine how gorgeous they must be at night!

I almost freaked out when I thought the bus does not have USB Charging ports! The staff were quick to correct me, and inform me that the ports are located on the bottom of the chairs, in the middle of the two seats. That is sooo convenient because having the charging port above your chair, kind of makes the chords get allover you, and it can be annoying.

My last, but not least favorite thing about the bus is that it is extremely affordable. The bus is currently going at MK8,400 per trip, and I think they beat nearly all local competitors in the price category. I love luxury, and I prefer cheap luxury!

Their departing points are at the new shoppi just outside Gateway mall, next to Action Aid offices.

In Blantyre, they depart from the total filling station in Nyambadwe.

I hope you will be joining me on my quest to explore more of Malawi for the next two years. I will let you know on what’s in the oven pretty soon – but I can promise you that it is pretty exciting.

Happy travelling!

All my love,

Ntha x
