IMS Survey

(Information Management Systems) Creation & Adoption in Malawi

Hello there,

My name is Nthanda Manduwi, and I am a development researcher, digital entrepreneur, and post-graduate student at the Malawi University of Science & Technology.

In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Entrepreneurship, I am conducting a research on modelling information management systems in Malawi. Specifically, I am researching the supply vs demand dynamics of creators and users of Information Management Systems (in this research referred to as IMS) in Malawi.

What are Information Management Systems?

In simple terms – an information management system (IMS) is a computer system (or set of computer programs) used to track and store information. An IMS may be used to track anything from financial data to inventory levels and customer information. Think of this blog(website) you are reading this information from, for example, or the survey you are about to take via Google Forms (linked below), or the Banking Application you use to manage and access your money. All these are examples of IMS.

My research is benchmarking the technology-organisation-environment framework, also known as the TOE framework.

The TOE framework is a theoretical framework that explains technology adoption in organisations, and it describes how the process of adopting and implementing technological innovations are influenced by the technological context, organisational context, and environmental context.

Louis G. Tornatzky and Mitchell Fleischer published the model in 1990. I will be analysing this in the specific context of Malawi.

In this research, I will be looking at all digital platforms – from social media to web platforms and applications.

Survey

I’d like to invite you to partake in this survey. The purpose of the survey is to collect data and opinions of users and creators of information management systems in Malawi, to understand the entrepreneurial opportunity presented by digitisation in Malawi.

All of the answers you provide in this survey will be kept confidential. No identifying information will be provided to the Malawi University of Science & Technology or otherwise. By proceeding to partake in this survey, you consent to your data being used in this statistical analysis. The survey data will be reported in a summary fashion only, and it will not identify any individual person.
