Pieces of Lebanon

Pieces of Lebanon
O how you were
A little sprout from the earth
Silently cracking through the grounds dirt
The firmament bowed to your sway

O how beautiful you were
With your blackish brown skin
Knotty hair with straight lashes
Full lips with firm breasts
Warm smile with inviting eyes

Do you remember when I first came
Across the river you stood, showering in the sun’s rays
How elegant your disposition was
Meekly yet prideful
I stood beneath the canopy
Hiding behind the cedars that worshiped you

How durable you seemed
A strong scent wafting through the air
Perfume unique to a master piece of God’s handiwork
I was lost in that moment
Forgotten what I came for
I was a warrior star struck
A messenger with no tale

A hunter with no quarry

Look how the years have passed
Looming shadows under your eyes
The ravages of time slowly nibbling a tour feet
Look at what we became
Remnants of a past life
The vigor of our youth left
The sparkle of innocence gone

We fought
We lost
We cried
We prayed
We wished
We hoped
We birthed

Now as you lay here
In this bed I made
In this house I built
In this home you created
In this place you breathed life into
I sing you a lullaby
Caressing your grey hair and grainy skin
Sleep my lovely Cedar
For you are as evergreen as I first saw you…

Gigantic love sealed with prayers,
