By the End of Your Teens: Book Launch

On September 14, 2018, we celebrated the launch of my book: “By The End of Your Teens“.

This day marked not just the publication of my first book but also a significant milestone in my personal and professional journey. Reflecting on that night, I am still filled with gratitude and pride.

About the Book

“By The End of Your Teens” is a psychological self-help handbook inspired by lessons I wished I had known during my teenage years. It blends personal experiences with psychological theories, guiding young people through self-discovery and personal growth. I started writing this book at 20, reflecting on the challenges and insights that shaped my teenage years.

The Launch Event

The book launch was held at the residence of the German Ambassador to Malawi, H.E. Jurgen Borsch, and his wife, Iris. Their support and willingness to host the event elevated the experience, creating an intimate and elegant setting that truly set the tone.

Sponsorship and Support

I was fortunate to receive sponsorship from the German Embassy, Qoncept Creative, IPPL Printing and Packaging, Glam and Glory, and FaceForward Spas. Their contributions ensured that the evening was not only a celebration but also a professionally executed event that honored the significance of the book’s release.

Guests and Performances

I invited around 70 guests, including close friends, family, and notable figures in Malawi’s creative and entrepreneurial communities. My friend, Musician Sangie, hosted the event beautifully, and Martse gifted us with a live performance as part of his congratulations.

The reading

I think I had always known what my reading at the launch would be. As you write, you will probably be able to identify the focal point of your story, and what you wish told the most.

I did a reading about my first time experiencing loss(/death), and it was such a fulfilling experience of me, speaking of the hell I went through, healing the death of a very close friend, my forever shooting star Harriet, when were both 13.

Auction and Sales

The highlight of the evening was the auction of the first 25 copies of “By The End of Your Teens,” which collectively sold for MK1 million. The first copies went for MK200,000 each, with contributions from Margaret Chaika of FaceForward and Zilanie of Zathu. Several friends and supporters also purchased copies at MK50,000.

Reflections on the Evening

The launch was a labor of love, requiring months of preparation and planning. I felt overwhelmed in the days leading up to it, but witnessing the support and excitement from everyone in attendance made every effort worthwhile. Sharing an excerpt from the book about my first experience with loss was a deeply personal and healing moment.

Next Steps

Since the launch, I have distributed 500 copies of the book and am in the process of reworking the content for future print runs. I am also planning to distribute copies to schools and colleges across Malawi, ensuring that the lessons within reach more young people.

Thank you to everyone who supported the launch and continues to believe in the power of storytelling and personal growth.
