If you are reading this… it means that I have successfully completed the third semester of my MBA.
Just before the MBA started, we took a personality test. There were 4 types, but I remember specifically my personality being a D (Dominant) — a high D.
I assumed an MBA program would be full of high Ds. I was surprised to find out it was not.
When we saw our class profile, there were only two extreme Ds, and I was one of the two. That realization colored the rest of my MBA experience.
Coming into a new education system was already challenging. I was told I needed a 3.0 GPA to keep my partial scholarship, and the education system I came from had shaped me differently — professors back home often felt built against you. You either memorized exactly what they wanted, or you failed. And I’ve never been good at memorization.
One and a half years at MSU has taught me much more than business.
It taught me quite a lot about myself.
I learned traits about myself that I didn’t like.
I learned traits about myself that I loved.
I learned traits about others that I didn’t like.
I learned traits about others that I deeply admired.
And through all of it, I grew.
I have explored so much within the past year — and the height of it all has been my writing. When I chose to pursue an MBA, I told myself it would be a writing retreat disguised as a degree.
The reality was far more challenging than I anticipated. The first semester made writing feel almost impossible. Juggling running my companies and being present in school was killing me!
But over time, I found my footing. With support — including AI — I was able to publish three books and make progress on ten more.
I am incredibly grateful for the past one and a half years.
The Michigan State University will always hold a deep place in my heart.
In these final months before graduation, I am excited to continue supporting the College of Engineering in the Applied Engineering capstone course, guiding undergrad seniors as they prepare to apply what they have learnt to industry.
I will be also be deepening the work of Q2 Systems as we prepare to begin scaling @KwathuFarms. I will be between Michigan and Malawi — building a dream that now lives between two nations.
Wishing you and yours a joyful holiday season. 🤍
If you’d like to go deeper into my journey — from Malawi, through the United Nations to Microsoft, you can find it in my books.
